County Hopes to Open Fort Monmouth Pool and Teen Center This Spring

FMERA approved sublease of property to county last month

Monmouth County hopes to have the pool and teen center at Fort Monmouth open this spring.

The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) board approved its lease of the teen center and pool from the Army, and its sublease of the property to Monmouth County last month, according to the FMERA monthly newsletter.

The two buildings that make up the teen center are located in the Charles Wood section of Tinton Falls and total 22,636 square feet and sit on approximately 6.5 acres.

The property includes an outdoor pool, youth center and a shower/restroom building. The facility will be managed by the Monmouth County Parks Department as a public recreational facility.

The outdoor pool will operate on a seasonal basis, while the teen center will be used year-round, according to the FMERA newsletter.

No exact time for the opening of the teen center and pool has been announced but Monmouth County Freeholder Lillian Burry has said it will be "opened and functioning in the late spring."

Though the county won't pay for the property directly, it will come with costs.

As part of FMERA's developer agreement with the county, Tinton Falls and CommVault, the county will compensate FMERA in "in-kind services" equal to the agreed upon real estate value of the Teen Center and pool, $502,645. Likewise, Tinton Falls will give in-kind services up to $486,920, the agreed value of the Child Development Center, which Tinton Falls will use as an early elementary school.

The in-kind services will go toward sewer hook ups and road improvements to the property CommVault has agreed to purchase in Tinton Falls. According to the resolution, as the first property owner in the redevelopment CommVault will "require a higher amount of off-site improvements than subsequent developers." The three entities will make those improvements - with costs spread to each - to address the "disparity."
