• Residents are encouraged to lock their windows and doors before leaving for work.

• Leaving items such as garden tools or heavy items in the yard make it easier for a burglar to use them to break a window or pry open a door.

• Residents should turn on their home's alarm system when leaving.

The West Long Branch Police also ask residents to "be vigilant in reporting suspicious activity, cars or people. Never assume that the person walking through a neighbor's yard is in fact the meter reader, laborer, repairman, etc."
