A BP Gas Station employee was robbed at gunpoint early Wednesday morning in West Long Branch.
The 54-year-old employee, whose name was not released, told police he was working in the booth of the BP at the corner of Route 36 and Broadway shortly after midnight.
"The suspect showed him a semi-automatic handgun and demanded cash," West Long Branch Police Capt. Larry Mihlon said in a release. "The suspect fled on foot toward Oceanport on Eatontown Boulevard."
Mihlon said the employee was not harmed during the robbery where an "undetermined amount of cash was taken."
As of 4 p.m., the suspect has not been caught, Mihlon said. Officers on the scene were assisted by the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 unit in attempting to locate the suspect.
The suspect was described as a slim, dark-skinned black male, approximately 6 feet tall, 180 pounds and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
Sgt. William Lynch and officers Kyle Kampf and Laura Osborn are currently investigating the incident.
Mihlon asked anyone with information on the robbery to call the West Long Branch Police Detective Bureau at 732-229-5000 or the department's Tip Line at 732-403-3500 for anonymous tips.
