Serious Accident During Tour de Fair Haven Sends One to Trauma Unit

A serious accident during the first cycling event of the Tour de Fair Haven race sent one victim to Jersey Shore University Medical Center Trauma Unit by MONOC-1 helicopter.

At 7:11 a.m., a cyclist and race official collided at the intersection of River Road and Locust Avenue, Fair Haven Police Sgt. Jesse Dykstra said in a release. Dykstra, Patrolman Dwayne Reevey and both Rumson and Fair Haven First Aid squads responded to the scene and offered assistance. 

One of the accident victims was flown to Jersey Shore and the other was transported to Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. 

The identities of both are being held until family members have been notified. The incident is under investigation.
