Oceanport's Top Cop Retiring

Chief Harold Sutton will retire in March.

Oceanport Police Chief Harold W. Sutton announced last week that he will retire from his top spot in the department next year.

Sutton, who has served as the borough's chief since 2005, will retire effective March 1 after 35 years with the department.

Capt. Daniel Barcus told Patch that the department will release more information about Sutton's replacement in 2013.

Sutton joined the Oceanport Police Deparment in 1978. He was promoted to detective in 1989, to sergeant in 1992, detective sergeant in 1997 and captain in 1998.
