Oceanport Police Report Only One Arrest Stemming from Bamboozle

Do you think the borough should host parking for the music fest next year? Let us know in our poll.

Considering that about 30,000 music fans flowed in and out of the borough last weekend to attend the in Asbury Park, are pleased that there was only one arrest over the three-day event.

"From a police standpoint, it was a very smooth-flowing event," said Oceanport Police Capt. Daniel Barcus of the overflow parking created along Oceanport Avenue for Bamboozle attendees to use and hop on shuttle buses to take to the concert.

Eighteen-year-old Joseph P. Milleson of Middletown was arrested on the afternoon of May 18 in the Monmouth Park Grandstand parking lot when security noticed him "stumbling" and then fall and injure himself, according to police records. Mileson became "argumentative" when officers tried to provide first aid and pushed an officer, "wiping blood on the officer's exposed arm."

Bamboozle's organizer, Live Nation, paid for all Oceanport officers used to monitor the concert parking over the three days, said Barcus. He said the number of officers at any one time varied according to the time of day.

"It was a very controlled crowd," Barcus said of concertgoers, whom he described as "polite" and "respectful."

While traffic was heavy at times, especially on Saturday, Barcus said that it wasn't much different than a busy summer weekend. Added to the Bamboozle traffic over the weekend were racing fans headed to the track and folks getting outside to enjoy the beautiful weather.

"Regardless of when or where an event is held, traffic is bad," said Barcus, noting that the borough has small, single-lane roadways that are often challenged throughout the summer season.

"We're hearing some negative things, but it's the same people complaining about the same things," said Barcus. "You can't please everyone."
