Man Found Dead On Hartshorne Woods Park Trail

The 67-year old Leonardo man apparently died from a medical event, said police.

A Leonardo man apparently died during a hike at Hartshorne Park Wednesday afternoon, said Middletown Police Det. Lt. Stephen Dollinger.

William Bennett, 67, of Viola Avenue was found by a bicyclist on the Grand Tour trail around 3:30 p.m.

The investigation by police determined that Bennett was hiking along the trail when he suffered some sort of a medical episode that resulted in his death.

Det. Daniel Sullivan of the Middletown Police Department and Det. Andrea Tozzi of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s office conducted the investigation.

Hartshorne Woods is part of the Monmouth County Park System. It is a 787-acre site overlooking the Navesink River, with entry points in the Locust section of Middletown and Highlands. It has 14 miles of challenging trails and is open year round. The Grand Tour is a black diamond trail.
