Man, 70, Charged With Setting Four Fires in Red Bank

The Red Bank man allegedly set the fires all within the span of an hour.

A 70-year old Red Bank man faces three counts of arson for allegedly setting fires near the train station on Friday. 

Police say that on July 11 around 4:30 p.m., 70-year old Gabriel A. Ramos of South Pearl Street set a Dumpster on fire at 176 Monmouth Street in Red Bank, causing $750 in damage. That is the same address at the North of the Border restaurant.

From there he set three more fires in the area of the train station,

Police allege he hit 48 West Street, the address of Tubby's Auto Center, at 4:45 p.m., then set another fire at 5 p.m. at 80 Oakland St and another at 5:10 at 35 Oakland Street. Both are homes and the fires could have put people in danger, police say. 

Ramos was charged with three counts of arson, one count of attempted arson, and one count of criminal mischief. 

Ramos admitted to the incidents on videotape to Sgt. Juan Sardo, according to the officer's account on complaint records. 

He is being held on $107,500 bail at the county jail in lieu of bail. Ramos' first appearance before a judge is July 17. 

In 2011, Ramos served 89 days in jail on criminal trespassing charges, according to records accessed on the APP's Data Universe.
