Gas Odor Leads to Wolf Hill Evacuation

Police and fire departments responded to Tuesday's incident that stemmed from a steam table in the school's cafeteria.

Wolf Hill School was evacuated on Tuesday afternoon after a gas odor was detected in the school's cafeteria, according to Superintendent Andrew Orefice.

The evacuation drill was conducted around 12:41 p.m.

An investigation by police and fire officials determined that the smell originated from a steam table in the school's cafeteria and shut it off, Orefice said in a letter sent home to parents. "Once we shut off the valve, the gas odor ceased and the fire department checked it again and it was working properly," said Orefice.

No gas was detected when fire officials checked the building with monitors and students and staff reentered the building at 1:05 p.m.

"The students and staff did a wonderful job with the evacuation and we thank the police and fire departments for their efforts," Orefice said.
