Expect Extra Traffic, Detours During Haskell Invitational on July 27

Monmouth Park will be hosting the 2014 Haskell Invitational Horse Race on Sunday. Oceanport Police have issued an advisory about traffic.

An announcement from the Oceanport Police Dept.: 

On Sunday, Monmouth Park will be hosting the 2014 Haskell Invitational Horse Race. The Haskell is the largest attended race of the year at Monmouth Park.

Motorists are advised that Oceanport Ave between Port Au Peck Ave and the Main Gate of Monmouth Parkwill be closed to all vehicle traffic from 11:00am to 8:00pm.

 Detours will be in place, but it is advised to plan alternate routes to avoid the large pedestrian flow, and additional vehicle traffic in and out of MonmouthPark.  

Motorists will also encounter delays on Port Au Peck Ave near the New Jersey Transit Railway line and thePicnic Area entrance to Monmouth Park.  

Port Au Peck Ave from Myrtle Ave to East Main Street could be closed to through traffic from approximately 5:00pm to 7:30pm.

Cross‐town traffic should utilize Asbury Ave and Bridgewater’s Drive.  

Note: The posted speed limit on Asbury and Bridgewater’s Drive is 25mph.
This speed limit will be strictly enforced.   

Heavy traffic congestion will occur on surrounding roadways from the completion of the last race at approximately 6:30pm to approximately 7:30pm.

Roadways that will experience heavy traffic flow will be Port Au Peck Ave from Myrtle Ave to Eatontown Blvd(County Rt 537), Eatontown Blvd from State Hwy 36 to Wyckoff Road/Broad Street in Eatontown, Main Street, Monmouth Road (State Hwy 71), and Oceanport Ave near the Racetrack, and Oceanport Ave from Port AuPeck Ave to the Little Silver Line.

Drivers travelling on State Hwy 36 will experience heavy traffic flow from Monmouth Park westbound to the Garden State Parkway.

Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes andplan for extra time when travelling in the area.
