UPDATE: NJ Transit Bridge Fixed, Service South of Manasquan Resumes

Bridge was stuck in open position.

Update, 3:30 p.m.: The bridge is back down and service has been restored, said William Smith, an NJ Transit spokesperson.

"The cause still under investigation. We can't say if it was weather related," Smith said.

NJ Transit trains cannot run south of the Manasquan station because the bridge leading from there to Point Pleasant Beach is stuck in the open position.

William Smith, an NJ Transit spokesperson, said at about 2:20 p.m. Tuesday that the bridge had been stuck in the up position since about 1:30 p.m. and crews had either arrived at the scene to work on it or they were en route.

When asked if ice, biting winds or frigid temperatures caused the bridge malfunction, Smith said he did not know.

"NJ Transit is providing shuttle buses from the Manasquan train
station to Bay Head for passengers traveling south of Manasquan," Smith said.
