A driver who had just dropped a child off at Maple Place School Tuesday morning rear-ended a parked school bus, according to police.
Oceanport Lt. Michael Chenoweth said there were no children on the bus at the time and the driver of the school bus was not hurt. The female driver of the red Nissan Sentra was taken to Monmouth Medical Center for minor injuries, Chenoweth added.
The driver "wasn't paying attention" after she dropped the child off around 7:48 a.m. and drove into the rear of the school bus where it became wedged.
Superintendent Andrew Orefice said that Oceanport police and first aid responded to the "minor accident."
"Although we were fortunate, this does underscore a reminder for all of us to be ever vigilant of all road laws associated with pedestrian safety especially within the confines of our campuses," Orefice wrote in a letter sent to parents on Tuesday afternoon.
