Oakhurst boy was pronounced dead at 1:34 p.m.

The 12-year-old Oakhurst boy whose sand tunnel has died at Monmouth Medical Center.

Long Branch Police Capt. Jason Roebuck confirmed the boy was pronounced dead at 1:34 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

His name has not been released at this time.

The boy was apparently digging a large tunnel under the sand on the beach near the Great Lawn shortly after 3 p.m. when it collapsed on him.

The boy was with his mother and 10-year-old brother, who tried to dig him out with the help of lifeguards. Lifeguards performed CPR until an ambulance took him to Monmouth Medical Center, where he was placed in pediatric intensive care overnight.

I'm curious -- The Photo shows the Lifeguard Stand right beside this Hole.....did they move the Guard Stand to prevent other people from falling into the abyss ?? Or was the boy digging right next to the Stand ??
