Alligator Found on Hartshorne Road in Middletown

A 2 1/2 foot alligator was taken away by Middletown Township Animal Control.

Middletown Township Animal Control collected a 2 1/2 foot alligator sitting on a driveway on Hartshorne Road today, according to police.

The animal was secured with a blanket and put in a carrier by Officer Bob Card. "There is no indication where the alligator came from," said Det. Lt. Stephen Dollinger in a news release. The State Department of Fish and Game has taken possession of the gator and will find it an appropriate home, according to the township.

Patrolman Scott Davis was the first to respond to the scene, which was called in to police at 10:43 a.m.

The incident is under investigation by Victor “Buddy” Amato of the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, according to APP.com.

While not common, this is approximately the fourth alligator found in town in the past several years, according to a township spokesperson.

Also in unusual animal sightings news, a bear was sighted in Allaire State Park in Wall Township. Read more on Wall Patch.

Very unusual. Most alligators have 4 feet.
