Bites Nearby: Colonel's Kissing Booth

New eatery in Asbury Park is quickly becoming a favorite, offering delicious breakfast, lunch, and some dinner specials.

This past weekend I had friends visiting, so on Sunday morning we were on a mission to find a good breakfast. I decided to suggest a place that I heard was great, but had never gone to before -- Colonel's Kissing Booth, down the street from me in Asbury Park, on the corner of Summerfield and Emory Avenues.

It opened this past summer, and I had heard great things.  They describe their cuisine as "American comfort food" and comfort it was -- specializing in breakfast foods, they also offer lunch (for the late risers).  We arrived around noon -- perfect for either/or.

I ordered "French Kisses", five generous slices of French toast with fresh apple compote (yes, fresh, real apples -- made on site!), and hashbrowns. Given the previous late evening I had, I also ordered a side of bacon -- and no, I definitely could not not finish my plate.

The guys at the table opted for egg dishes -- the Bang-a-Rang omelette made with tomatoes, bacon, and cream cheese topped with fresh herbs, and the "eggs in a basket" special -- holes punched out of slices of white bread, with a eggs cooked inside.

Both meals come with sides of the Colonel's crispy-cut hasbrowns as well.

Last but not least, our other friend ordered a mushroom and swiss cheeseburger served with homemade potato chips that were made when ordered -- and were crispy and delicious!

Colonel's also, of course, offers your traditonal egg sandwiches, pancakes, and even the "Sir Kenton", which are loaded oversized pancakes filled with your choice of meat and topped with two eggs any style.

Apparently the male friends that I was with didn't read the full menu, because I was sure one of them would ordered the Sir Kenton -- sadly, they both missed it, and said they will both order it next time. Of course, they were both incredibly happy with their meals regardless.

If you are in the mood for lunch or early dinner, try the Colonels' Club, turkey and American cheese layered with lettuce, tomato, avocado, and homemade cilantro/lime mayonnaise, or the Ultimate BLT made with thick-cut hickory smoked bacon piled with lettuce, beefsteak tomato slices and horseradish mayonnaise.

They also feature a veggie wrap, fried chicken basket with a side of macaroni and cheese, fish and chips, soups, salads, and a deli counter.  The deli highlights your typical tuna and egg salads, but also boasts a Caprese Pasta Salad with penna pasta, seasonal tomatoes, mozzarella, oregano, basil, and extra virgin olive oil.

This weekend, definitely visit Colonel's Kissing Booth for lunch or even takeout.  Everything is cooked to order, so be patient -- it is definitely worth the wait! All four of us walked out saying, "That was awesome"...and they even have dinner specials.
