Saturday Update from Oceanport Office of Emergency Management

The National Weather service has issued a flood watch or warning for Oceanport and surrounding areas.

The Borough Fire or Emergency Management staff WILL NOT be permitted to assist or supply equipment to residents in pumping out homes. Due to the hydraulics that will be present and the pressures placed on masonry walls, this should be done by persons or businesses experienced in the dewatering process.

Estimates place the storm now arriving on Monday towards the afternoon. THE STORM WILL BRING STRONG WINDS...TORRENTIAL RAINFALL AND COASTAL FLOODING. HEAVY AND POSSIBLY RECORD SETTING RAINFALL AMOUNTS IN THE MONDAY TO TUESDAY TIME FRAME COULD LEAD TO MAJOR FLOODING IN SOME LOCATIONS.

NOW IS THE TIME TO START PREPARING. Make sure food, water, medications, batteries are in good supply. Have a hard line old style phone available to get Code Red alerts. Secure outdoor furniture. Check on elderly family members.

EVACUATIONS MAY BE CALLED FOR in low areas of the Borough. Car parking will be away from low areas in Port-au-Peck, Gooseneck and Horseneck section.

Make arrangement with family or friends to care for pets. Shelters will not be able to care for them with people.
