Oceanport is "Stronger Than The Storm"

Borough participates in the "Stronger Than The Storm" ribbon cutting along the Jersey Shore

Oceanport cut the ribbon officially reopening the Jersey Shore as Governor Christie did the same in Seaside Heights live on the TODAY Show. A world record ribbon cutting exceeding 5 miles, was joined by segments all along the 130 miles of Jersey coastline. The wide blue ribbon was on display in several locations across the borough including Monmouth Park Racetrack, Maple Place Middle School and Borough Hall. These locations all played a special role during Sandy and in the weeks that followed.

Monmouth Park was the "high ground" where many residents vehicles, boats and equipment were safely parked as flood waters rose during the storm. The track also hosted the power company recovery teams and the FEMA tent city following Sandy as the community dealt with the clean up effort.

Maple Place Middle School was the OEM Shelter for nearly two weeks and served those residents in need of shelter, food, power, computer access and other assistance following the storm. The Award winning Maple Place Band played several patriotic songs to celebrate the occasion.

Oceanport Borough Hall represents the administrative staff, police, OEM, CERT, Oceanport CARES, Fire, EMS, Fire Police and volunteers that dedicated themselves to serving the community. Despite being displaced to other facilities as flood waters swept through the building; these employees remained on the job for all of us.
