Obituary: Evelyn L. Finley, 95

The Little Silver resident died on May 21.

Evelyn Finley, 95, of , died at her home on Monday, according to an obituary in the Asbury Park Press. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Finley entered a beauty contest and became Miss Long Island Sound in 1936 and went on to enter the Miss America contest as Miss Connecticut, going to Atlantic City.

Finley married Milton Finley Jr. in 1941 and moved to Little Silver in 1946 she was an active member of the community and was honored as "Gold in Little Silver" as part of the borough's 50th anniversary.

Finley was preceded in death by her husband, Milton, in 2011; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lenhart of Little Silver. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Finley Leahy of Asbury Park; a sister, Marjorie Lockwood of Plano, TX; a nephew, Tim Lockwood and his wife Ruthie; and a niece, Wendy and her husband Greg of Plano, TX.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 25 at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26 at the First Presbyterian Church of Red Bank-Tower Hill, 255 Harding Road, Red Bank. Interment will follow at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to the Monmouth County SPCA, Wall St., Eatontown, NJ 07724.
