Local Korean War Veteran Dies at 83

Frank G. Bressi died peacefully on Jan. 6.

The following is an obituary from Damiano Funeral Home in Long Branch:

Frank G. Bressi, Sr., age 83 of Long Branch, died peacefully Monday, January 6, 2014. Mr. Bressi served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After his discharge from the Air Force he joined the U.S. Merchant Marines, and served with them until his retirement at the rank of Chief Engineer. During his time serving in the Merchant Marines he sailed with Moore McCormack Lines, United States Lines and many other steamship companies. He was a graduate of the Cambridge School of Radio Broadcasting, a licensed private pilot, a member of the Marine Engineer’s Benevolent Association and a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church of Christ the King Parish, Long Branch. Born in Sant'Andrea, Calabria, Italy, he came to America as a child, settling in Watertown, Massachusetts before relocating to Long Branch, New Jersey in the 1960’s where fell in love and raised a family.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Sam and Joe Bressi. Surviving are his loving wife, Marlene Bressi; his son Frank Bressi, Jr. of Long Branch; and a brother, Jim Bressi of Morristown, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2014 from 1 – 4 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave., (corner of Third Ave.), Long Branch. Funeral Monday, 9 am at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at Holy Trinity Church, Long Branch.
