American Gold Star Mother Dies at 86

Funeral services for Theresa Knott of Oceanport will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15

Theresa Knott, 86 of Oceanport, passed away Tuesday at the Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, surrounded by her family.

Knott was born in Staten Island and had lived in Long Branch before moving to Oceanport 50 years ago. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Long Branch, where she and her husband Herbert served as Sextons as well as the Directors of the youth program. Knott was an American Gold Star Mother, where she counseled and supported other Mothers who lost children in the war.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, Herbert Knott, in 2000; her children Lance Corporal Robert Balmer, who died in 1965 while serving in the U.S. Marine Corp., in Vietnam, L. Keith Balmer in 1985 and Terry Balmer in 2010.

Surviving is her son, Arthur Knott, Oceanport, her daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Valentin Milchev, New Hampton, NH; her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Joan Buonansonti, Freehold; her grandchildren, Tearsa, Kristina, Robert, Kayla, Evan and George.
