Branch Avenue Traffic Light Issue

Traffic Lights on Branch Avenue, help or hindrance?

The lights have now been operating for nearly a week and here are a couple of observations from someone who has lived in Little Silver on Winfield Drive for nearly 27 years.  I have MORE difficulty getting out of our circle than I have had during morning and evening rush time.  I have yet to get a green light and the one at the end of White is really a three-way which is necessary, I suppose.  I do not understand why there is a no turn on red sign on Winfield.

What I have seen are people speeding up to get to the light as my front window faces Branch Avenue and I have the dubious distinction of having the red light shining in my front window.  There are idling cars blocking the intersection like gridlock making a turn into Winfield worse than ever.  These people must see the next light and think they need to hurry to make that one as well.   Also there have been people going up on the sidewalks to pass cars.  This intersection is more hazardous than ever. I feel that the safety of pedestrians is greatly compromised with the lights and the work for on Seven Bridges has not even started yet.

People seem to not abide by the pedestrian crossing etiquette as my husband and I have to wait even longer to cross over into the Sunnycrest neighborhood to walk our dogs in the early morning.  I cringe to think what will happen when school is in session and there are more children and parents on the sidewalks.

I feel that there needs to be some tweaking for this to be tolerable to us directly affected by this situation.  Has there even been a consideration to have the lights blinking after 9 p.m.?  I will be contacting both Chief Shaffery and the county officer, Dennis Walsh to share my concerns.
