World Subaru Awards $1K to Oceanport Scavenger Hunt Winners

You may have noticed a strange number of residents spilling out of their cars Saturday to take photos of themselves in front of Borough Hall.

It wasn't that they were really into local government. No. They were in it for the money.

The photos were a part of the first ever Oceanport Scavenger Hunt organized by the borough's Parks and Recreation Department.

Eight teams convened for donuts in the morning at Wolf Hill School where they were given a list of borough sites to visit, photograph and answer questions about. Additional points were given for team names, vehicle decorations and costumes. Perhaps best dressed was Team 1920 (that's when Oceanport was founded, we're told), who are pictured here. Aren't they just the bees knees?

The teams then spent the next three hours touring Oceanport and snapping away like tourists. The event culminated at the event's sponsor, World Subaru in Tinton Falls where participants enjoyed a catered lunch and some time to catch up with their neighbors.

Organizers Joanne Hunt, Mike Minervini and Paul Hester say they plan to host the event again next year, with some added challenges, and World Suburu has agreed to sponsor it again.

For year's hunt Suburu donated $1,000 in cash prizes.

• Second Place, Team Winning, $150
• Third Place, Oceanport Post Office, $100
