10. Tent City at Racetrack Now Housing Evacuees

As local shelters set up to house those displaced by the ravages of Hurricane Sandy begin to close, hundreds of evacuees were moved to the giant tents erected at Monmouth Park for shelter on Wednesday, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Standing in her 16-year-old son's room, once crisply painted navy blue, Nancy Leonard lifts bubble wrap off a carefully wrapped painting of him. "It's my favorite picture of him," she says. But as she lifts the plastic, the painting is gone, vanished, like someone shook out the Etch-a-Sketch. The storm surge that filled her home with about three feet of brackish water wiped the image from the canvas.

TMZ.com and other media outlets are reporting that Middletown rocker Jon Bon Jovi's daughter, 19-year old Stephanie Rose Bongiovi, was arrested at an upstate New York college after a heroin overdose.

To our residents, friends and neighbors:

Little Silver was blessed with little or no injury to emergency workers and residents during the storm, but suffered some significant property destruction from downed trees and flood waters. Several homes were destroyed or badly damaged, and we have residents who have been displaced from their homes, some for an extended period of rebuilding.

5. Far Flung Workers and Locals Bond Through Sandy

When the power went out again on Friday, we weren't worried.

We'd already lived through more than 10 days without power and had thawed quite a bit in the 48 hours of electricity we had just enjoyed. But what gave us hope that we could endure another cold night wasn't our fireplace or our camping equipment, but a crew of guys from the West Coast, hanging from the telephone poles on our street.

JCP&L continues to slowly bring power back to Little Silver. The authorities we speak with regularly at the electric company advise that about two thirds of Little Silver customers were restored to power on Wednesday, but that full restoration is not expected until Sunday.

2. Sandy Evacuees Moving to Fort Monmouth

Hundreds of New Jerseyans displaced by the ravages of Hurricane Sandy will be relocated to temporary housing on Fort Monmouth by the end of the week, Gov. Chris Christie announced Monday.

The former military base could house between 400 to 600 families, according to NJ.com.

JCP&L continues to work on restoring power. About a third of Little Silver customers remain without power as of November 8, 2012. JCP&L advises that on November 8 and 9, 2012, it will be working on restoring power to the following streets:
