The Week Ahead: School Lunch Menus and a New Editor for LSOP Patch

Celebrate Presidents' Day and a new editor for your Patch!

There's a New Kid in Town

Well, that's not really true. While you're waking up today to find a new editor manning the helm of your local Patch, I'm actually no stranger to these parts. I've lived in Little Silver for about 18 years and grew up in this part of Monmouth County so you could say I've been preparing for this position for much of my life. I also have the advantage of being the mom to four kids -- from 19 to 9 -- who are all products of our local schools, which has taught me first hand how to get involved in my community.

More than anything, I want to reflect and share what's happening in our towns and hope to hear from you to get the word out on Patch. Think your idea or event is too small to share? The smaller, the better! Heck, I've even written about kids selling rocks they painted with Giants logos. It's what makes living in a small town so great, so send away!

Is Anyone Even Reading This?

As we are now smack-dab in the middle of the long Presidents' weekend, lots of families have cleared out of Dodge for warmer or snowier climes to take advantage of the kids' days off from school. Little Silver and Red Bank Regional are off Monday and Tuesday this week and have to drag themselves back on Wednesday. Oceanport and Shore Regional students have one more day to sleep in before they're back in their desks on Tuesday.

As Monday is an official federal holiday, all borough offices and postal offices are closed. Call your bank branch if finances are on your to-do list as many are also oberving the President's Day holiday.

Take the Kids to Lunch

The grand opening of the new Sonic Drive-In Restaurant over by the A&P and Work Out World in Tinton Falls coincides with the kids' day off from school on Monday, Feb. 20. The ribbon cutting is at noon and then the drive up stalls are open for business. Let us know if you're going because we'd love for you to bring us some fries on your way home.

Attention Teenagers: Summer is Right Around the Corner

Local teens will have some long days to fill this summer with hopefully something other than sleeping and watching the latest episode of the Vampire Diaries they've recorded. Good news: Little Silver's Recreation Department has made applications available for coveted summer rec counselor positions. Applications, due March 31, can be found at the borough's Web site or you can pick one up over at boro hall. Or you can mosey over to our photo gallery to the right of this article to print out the application as well.
