Shore Regional Students Ready For New Year

Students plan on trying new things this school year.

School is back in session for  students, and that means a year filled with new classes, activities and experiences.

Sophomore students in Chris Mauro's creative expressions class said they were looking forward to a new year at Shore Regional, and for one of them, it will be their first year.

Sam Fitzgerald, 15, of West Long Branch, recently moved to the area from Verona and said she is taking advantage of some of the opportunities she has at her new school.

"I'm taking Italian, that wasn't an option at my old school," Sam said.

She said she has enjoyed her brief time at Shore Regional.

"It's fun and the people are really nice," she said.

Others are looking to channel their entrepreneurial spirit.

"I'm looking forward to starting a sci-fi club," Evan Jones, 16, of Monmouth Beach said.  "Me and my friends are looking to start it up."

Jones said they will need the help of a teacher to get the club up and running, but are looking forward to getting the club started soon.

Natalie Toro, 15, of Oceanport, said she is going to join more clubs this year such as Interact and The Beacon, the school's newspaper.

Samatha Irace, 14, of Oceanport, is ready to put her athletic talents to good use as she will be playing field hockey, softball and will also be a member of the school's swim team in the winter.

"I'm excited to start sports, but I'm also going to join the French Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Interact," Irace said.
