'Run for the Fallen' Trots Through Two River Area, Memorializes Troops

The 152 mile trek across New Jersey honored soldiers who gave their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan and made stops in Rumson, Little Silver, Shrewsbury, Red Bank and Lincroft on Sunday.

Onlookers in beach chairs and local high school football jerseys hooted, hollered and waved their support as three runners trotted their flags over the Shrewsbury River Bridge into Rumson around 3 p.m. Sunday, when the New Jersey Run for the Fallen made its way into the Two River area.

Teams of active and reserve military (in running gear) made to honor New Jersey service members killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Every mile of the trek the runners stopped to present a flag and personalized biographical card to family and friends of a fallen soldier.

The run made 10 stops in the area, following Rumson Road into Little Silver, where it stopped in front of and , then turned toward Shrewsbury, where it stopped in front of on 35, and into Red Bank, where it stopped in front of . The route continued down 520, where it stopped in front of the National Guard building and Lincroft Inn in Middletown before making the final stretch into Holmdel.
