Oceanport Warns Residents of Coming Storm

Significant rainfall and flash flooding is possible for Thursday.

The Oceanport Office of Emergency Management is warning residents that a severe storm system is headed toward the borough today.

"The system will bring the potential for very heavy rainfall and active severe weather to our region on Thursday," a Code Red Message from the OEM states. "There is a threat of widespread flash flooding and river flooding."

Monmouth County is expected to receive about 3 inches of rain which could cause flash flooding when the heavier rain occurs.

"Based on current rainfall forecasts, moderate river flooding is likely for multiple river basins across the region," the Code Red message states.

"Tornadoes, strong damaging winds and large hale are all threats to our region on Thursday," the message continues.

The OEM stated that power outages and downed trees are possible because of the ground which is still saturated from the weekend's rain and the weather earlier this week.

"Now is the time to secure your outdoor furniture," the message stated.
