National Weather Service: Severe Thunderstorms, Damaging Winds Expected

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for New Jersey until 9:00 p.m. EDT, Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Monmouth County this afternoon. 

At 3:18 p.m. EDT, the National Weather Service doppler radar indicated severe thunderstorms capable of producing quarter-sized hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. 

The NWS offers the following precautionary/preparedness actions:

"This is a dangerous storm. If you are in its path, prepare for damaging winds, destructive hail, and deadly cloud to ground lighting. People outside should move immediately to a shelter, preferably inside a strong building but away from windows."

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 9:00 p.m. EDT, Sunday evening for New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania.
