Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 30, 2011

A compilation of the need to know info and events going on in, and around, Little Silver and Oceaport.

1. Meet & Greet: Come to the media center at Red Bank Regional High School tonight to get to know new superintendent Jim Stefankiewicz and grab some refreshments, at 7 p.m. Afterwards, the public is invited to take a seat as Stefankiewicz presents the 2011-2012 school budget and a student video explaining the successes of the high school is played. 

 

2. "Not Just Another Ladies Night": A fundraiser organized by the Junior League of Monmouth County will be held tonight from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the in Rumson. Proceeds from the event go towards a nutrition based life skills workshop for the women from Spring House and Manna House, two Monmouth County transitional homes for homeless women and children. Tickets to the event are $60 each and can be purchased in advance at www.jlmc.org.

The cost of the event includes dinner, dancing, and cocktails. Also, the Fred Astaire Dance Studio will give dance demonstrations, guests can enjoy cigar rolling, and there will also be an after-dinner drinks station.  There will also be a silent auction featuring numerous items to be donated to the women living at Spring and Manna House.

3. It Happened One Night: The Frank Capra classic screwball comedy, starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert (who won Oscars for their roles) will be playing tonight at Count Basie Theater in Red Bank from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. BONUS--The showing is free!

 

4. "Riding for Lucas": Head over to Val's Tavern in Rumson tonight from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. to support the Viscomi family. Lucas Viscomi is a 9 year-old Little Silver resident who suffers from a genetic disease that harms his internal organs and nervous system. Part of the proceeds from tonight's festivities will be donated to the "Friends of Lucas Viscomi Fund". Tonight is the last push for donations before the 50 mile "Riding for Lucas" bike ride set for this Saturday, April 2. 

 

5. Scrimmages: Red Bank Regional High School has four home scrimmages today.

  • Boys Varsity Tennis vs. Toms River East at 3:30 p.m.
  • Boys Freshman Baseball vs Old Bridge High School at 3:45 p.m.
  • Girls Varsity Softball vs Old Bridge High School at 3:45 p.m.
  • Girls JV Softball vs Old Bridge High School at 3:45 p.m.
