Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 28, 2011

1. New Release Monday: The Social Network, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake has two showings today at the Eastern Branch of the Monmouth County Library, on Rt. 35 in Shrewsbury. The 120 minute long movie plays at both 2 p.m. and  6:30 p.m. 

 

2. Red Bank Regional High School Home Scrimmages:

  • Boys Varsity and JV baseball against Pinelands Regional High School at 4 p.m.
  • Girls Varsity and JV softball against Pinelands Regional High School at 4 p.m.
  • Boys Varsity lacrosse against Freehold Township at 4 p.m. and boys JV plays against Freehold Township at 5:15 p.m.

 

3. Have you hugged a weed today?: March 28 is Weed Appreciation Day. Weeds are a necessary part of nature and offer food to many birds, deer, and other wildlife. Dandelions attract ladybugs, also known as "the gardeners best friend" because they eat harmful aphids. The caterpillars which turn into monarch butterflies feed on milkweed, bees make delicious honey from clover, and various weed seeds are food for beautiful birds. 4. Sunny Day: The National Weather Service is calling for a sunny day and a high of 45, with a northwest wind between 13 and 17 mph. Tonight, the skies will be clear with a low around 27.

 

5. Cat Lovers: 51 poor kitties were taken from the home of West Keansburg residence on March 13 and brought to the Monmouth County SPCA. If you're looking for a new cat to add to your home, come to the shelter on April 1 which will be open until 9 p.m. for cat only adoptions. For more information on the cats, click here.
