Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 25, 2011

A list of the need-to-know info and events going on in and around Little Silver and Oceanport.

1. Rec Rack: Bring all of your gently used or outgrown sports equipment to the Little Silver Fire House at 543 Prospect Avenue today, and come back tomorrow to shop! Drop off any gear your kids may have outgrown including (but not limited to): sticks, cleats, pads, skis, skateboards, skates, helmets, balls, dance shoes, etc. Collections will take place at the fire house from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Stop by tomorrow from 9 a.m.  to 1 p.m. to shop and stock up for your family’s changing sports needs. 

Families donating today will receive a coupon good for 20 percent off their entire Rec Rack purchase!

2. Casino Night Fundraiser: The SOURCE Foundation will hold a Casino Night tonight at McLoone’s at 816 Ocean Avenue in Sea Bright. Proceeds will benefit The SOURCE, Red Bank Regional’s (RBR) School Based Youth Services Program.

The special event will take place from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets are $100 per person, which includes a dinner buffet, $50 in casino chips, entertainment, a 50/50 drawing, and complimentary soda. Also available will be a cash bar and valet parking. Tickets can be purchased on the RBR website through PayPal at the RBR website by clicking on the “Casino Night” banner or by contacting Suzanne Keller, the SOURCE coordinator at (732)-842-8000, ext. 236, or email skeller@rbrhs.org.

The SOURCE’s mission is “To remove all obstacles that impede the success of young people in thecommunity.” This is accomplished by offering services to students and their families including: individual, group, and family counseling, preventative medical and dental care, academic support, scholarship opportunities, and recreational and cultural events.

 

3. All-Star Basketball: The Shore Basketball Association Coaches Senior All Star Game and Future Games featuring local eighth grade talent is taking place this evening in Collins Arena at Brookdale Community College. The girls futures game starts at 4 p.m., the boys futures game starts at 5 p.m., the girls senior all-star game begins at 6 p.m., and the boys senior all-star game finishes off the night at 6 p.m.

4. Maple Place School Landscaping Day: Tomorrow, March 26, will be hosting Landscaping Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in an effort to beautify the outdoor space on the Maple Place School property! Volunteers are needed--so pack up your wheelbarrow with hedge trimmers, shovels, rakes, gloves, and blowers and wheel on over! Kids are welcome to help out, but if they're not the gardening type bubbles, chalk, and balls will be available. 5. SRHS Marching Band: Shore Regional High School's Marching Band performs in the Keansburg St. Patrick's Day Parade tomorrow, March 26.  The parade will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Make the quick drive up to Keansburg to support the band and keep the Irish spirit still alive!
