Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 22, 2011

A list of the need to know info and events going on in and around Little Silver and Oceanport.

1. The Little Silver Shade Tree Commission is meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at Little Silver Borough Hall. 

 

2. Red Bank Regional High School has lacrosse scrimmages today against Wall High School and Nutley High School. Boys Varsity and Junior Varsity lacrosse teams are going against Nutley on their home turf; varsity plays at 4 p.m. and JV plays at 5:30 p.m.  Girls Varsity and Junior Varsity lacrosse teams are playing home games today against Wall High; varsity hits the field at 3:45 p.m. and the JV game starts at 5:15 p.m. Girls freshman lacrosse heads to Wall for a scrimmage at 3:45 p.m.

3. Shore Regional High School girls also break out their lax sticks for two home scrimmages today against Eastern High School. The girls varsity game starts at 4 p.m. and the junior varsity game starts at 5:15 p.m.

4. There are three great events at the Monmouth County Library--Eastern Branch going on today!

  • From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (S.H.I.P.) will answer questions on Medicare, Medicaid, insurance, and drug plans by means of volunteer counselors. One on one counseling appointments are also available. Call Family and Children’s Service for an appointment, (732)-728-1331. Appointments are required.
  • From 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. there will be a meditation session aimed at “gaining deep relaxation, eliminating stress, promoting health, increasing creativity and intelligence, and attaining inner happiness and fulfillment.” Om! 
  • If you’re looking for more of a laugh, from 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. the library will be showing the film It’s Kind of a Funny Story, starring Zack Galifanakis, Keir Gilchrist and Emma Roberts. 

 

5. Bridges at the Shore, a non-profit organization, is hosting the third annual tonight from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30p.m. at the . The bazaar is a gift swap of strange items! Everyone attending brings one strange object they would like to donate, as well as a non-perishable food item and $10 (if you want to get in!). A number is supplied to you at the door, and later in the evening when your number is called you will receive your new, odd prize! Read more about the event .
