Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 16, 2011

The list of events and need to know info for residents of Little Silver and Oceanport.

1. The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority is meeting tonight at Maple Place Middle School to discuss the future plans of Fort Monmouth, which is scheduled to close on Sept. 11 of this year at a cost of $1.8 billion. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

2. There are parents meetings tonight at Shore Regional High School. Parents of the Boys Varsity Lacrosse team will gather in the back cafe, and parents of the freshmen class will convene in the front cafe. Both meetings are at 7 p.m.

3. The Monmouth County Library - Eastern Branch in Shrewsbury is holding a “Computer Training for Job Seekers” today from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. This is the first of a four-part series of classes about Microsoft Windows, Word, Outlook, and Internet searching, with an emphasis on teaching computer skills to job hunters. Other skills taught will include resume writing, online job applications, e-mail, and basic computer skills. To register, call 866-941-8188 to register. The course is limited to 16 people.

 

4. Riverview Medical Center is holding a Pre-Op Spinal Fusion Education Class today from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. This class prepares a patient who will undergo spinal fusion surgery. The class tours the unit, covers how to plan everything from admission through discharge, as well as pain management. 

The class will take place in the 5 West Nursing Unit and will be taught by Total Joint and Spine Center registered nurses.  The class is free. 

 

5. Rain, rain go away...The National Weather Service is predicting a 90 percent chance of precipitation today, with rain and a possible thunderstorm hitting Little Silver and Oceaport before noon. New rainfall estimates are are between one half and three quarters of an inch. The high will be around 54 degrees Fahrenheit, with an east wind at 11 to 14 mph.
