This Date in History

This April 26 marks the 25th anniversary of the world's worst nuclear power plant accident in Chernobyl, Soviet Union, which left thirty-two dead and dozens more suffering from radiation burns. The incident began April 26, 1986, when operators at the plant botched a routine safety test, resulting in an explosion and fires that raged for 10 days. The radioactive fallout spread over tens of thousands of square miles from the plant, driving a quarter million people from their homes permanently.
