Sunny High 90 Low 64

Patchy fog may greet you if you've awoken before 8 a.m., and it is expected to dissipate into a sunny 90 degree day, according to our friends at the National Weather Service. During the day, expect a west wind between 10 and 14 mph. Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 64, and a west wind between 11 and 13 mph.

Marathon Meeting Postpones Decision on Little Silver Development

In a Tuesday evening meeting that ran an uncustomarily long four hours (the board typically wraps up in three), the Little Silver Planning Board put off deciding on a to be constructed east of the train station. The decision was held off until Sept. 13 so the board can review prospective developer Javin L.P.'s plan, which calls for 31 regular units, and includes 8 affordable housing units compliant with current state Council on Affordable Housing (COAH) legislation. Town Planner Richard Coppola testified that in his view, the presented plan was acceptable under the latest revisions of the law, which he and others on the board don't necessarily agree with but are being forced to operate under.

Oceanport Demands Fair School Funding

The Oceanport borough council sent a message to Trenton at their last meeting July 21 when they issued a proclamation demanding Fair School Funding, an initiative being led by New Jersey State Senator Michael Doherty (R-23), of Washington Township in Warren County. The proposed legislation calls for an even distribution of state tax dollars through dividing the state's total income tax revenue by the total number of enrolled students in the state. According to Doherty's website, the legislation would result in an average of $7,500 per child throughout the state, or an extra $3,747,082 given to the boro of Oceanport each year.

Independent Running for Little Silver Council

Underscoring her interest in seeing the community she's lived in for the past 16 years succeed and prosper, Little Silver resident Jennifer Pardee has filed a petition to run for an open seat on her borough's council as an Independent. If elected in November, Pardee would be the first woman to serve on council since the late Suzanne Castleman became mayor in 1994. She has served on the board of a co-op for 22 years, has served on the Traffic and Safety Committee for the past 4 years, and recently joined the board of the borough's Parker Homestead - 1665 Committee to preserve the historical buildings in front of .
