Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 14, 2011

The need-to-know list of info and events for citizens of Little Silver and Oceanport.

1. Mr. Morolda will be presenting “Developmental Designs”, a program used at Markham Place School, at the Little Silver PTO meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the MPS Library. 

“Developmental Designs” is a program for students in grades 5-9 which combines the social, emotional, physical and intellectual capacities of adolescents.

2. The Jersey Shore Parents, Friends, and Families of Lesbians & Gays (Bisexuals and Transgender) are meeting tonight from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury.

The non-profit organization holds a monthly support group in Toms River and Shrewsbury, and are affiliated with the PFLAG national office.  They meet the second Wednesday of each month in Toms River, and the second Monday of each month in Shrewsbury, and are not religiously affiliated or oriented. These meetings are meant to be safe-havens where people can feel safe and know that everything said is kept in confidence.  If you, or a family member, is gay and are struggling with issues please come to the Jersey Shore PFLAG meeting for support. 3. The Oceanport School District Board of Education is meeting tonight at Maple Place Library at 7 p.m. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. 

 

4. Today is March, 14. Or 3/14, or 3.14...get it? Today is National Pi Day! March 14 is the one day a year when mathematicians everywhere celebrate the idiosyncrasies of the number pi!

 

5. Since it is the Monday after Daylight Savings Time, today is also known as National Napping Day. Since we lost an hour this past weekend, try to make up that extra hour of sleep this afternoon! Just try not to drool on your desk at work...
