5 Things You Need to Know Today: Wednesday, March 7

A roundup of events and useful information for the good people of Oceanport and Little Silver.

  1. Heat wave: While we seem to spend an inordinate amount of time looking out the window (attention: neighbors), we feel the sun we've watched streaming down the last two days has been deceiving. We're cold, we tell you. But according to our friends at the National Weather Service, a heat wave is upon us. Wednesday's thermometer should climb to 57 degrees with sunny skies and a light wind. Get out your flip flops, though, because Thursday's forecast is for temperatures in the 60s and slightly breezier. Go find your sweater after that because it gets cool, and rainy, until the weekend.
  2. Dare to be different: Little Silver's Friends of Different Learners will meet today as part of a monthly program facilitated by the Two Rivers Friends of Different Learners. The group will gather at Panera Bread in Shrewsbury at 10 a.m.
  3. Continuing ed: The agenda for board meeting Wednesday night is packed with good stuff. The BOE will recognize Teacher of the Year Mandy Galante, distribute academic letter to students and introduce the $24 million budget for next year.
  4. Stop cyberbullying: The will host an Internet safety workshop Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the Cafeteria. The program will be given by Det. Rick Brockelier, Div. of Computer Crimes Unit from the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office and if he's the same guy we saw a few years ago speaking on the subject at RBR, you don't want to miss what he has to say.
  5. Conferences in Little Silver: Here's the good news: Conferences for parents who are concerned about their children's progress in the classroom will be held this Thursday and Friday. Evening conferences for both school will be held 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m on Thursday. Afternoon conferences on Friday are 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. The bad news? Kids will enjoy an early dismissal and will be asking you what's for lunch, right after you've cleaned up breakfast.
