5 Things You Need to Know Today: Wednesday, April 11

The lowdown on events and useful information in Little Silver and Oceanport.

Quality time: I don't know about you but I am getting sick of all this windy weather. It's cutting into all the romantic walks on the beach I planned on taking with my dog Rudy while the kids are away, to say nothing of the havoc it's wreaking on my daily hairdo. Too bad for me then, that today's weather includes more blowing gusts along with a 30 percent chance of rain, according to the National Weather Service. I guess I'll just have to stay home and make Rudy a nice dinner instead.

Is anyone reading this?: Is it me or is it like a ghost town around here with all the schools out for spring break? Both boroughs also seem to be pretty quiet in the meeting department as well. has a planning board and recreation committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. for both.

Opening day: will host a spring sports parade on Saturday, April 28 at 11 a.m. The event usually includes the kids marching from theto boro field, an exhibition game or two and refreshments and it's always a great town event.

Happy campers: Forms are available to register your kids for Oceanport Rec's Summer Camp Program. The 9 a.m. to noon daily camp starts June 25 and runs through July 27 and the cost is $160 per camper.

Taking care of business: The Little Silver Business and Professional Association will meet at borough hall at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. According to their Web site: "The Association was created to unite the local business and professional community in order to help promote the benefits of shopping, eating and doing business in this charming Jersey Shore town." Plus everybody's really nice.
