5 Things You Need to Know Today: Monday, March 19

What you need to know about in Little Silver and Oceanport today.

  1. Foggy bottom: Have you noticed the West Coast vibe we've been waking up to over the last few days? The foggy mornings and sunny afternoons make us think we've picked up and moved to Marin County. Expect the same on Monday, with the fog expected to break up around 11 a.m., according to the National Weather Service, and temperatures creeping up near 60 degrees. Wine, anyone?
  2. Leafy greens: _ residents, with the first day of spring creeping up tomorrow, we know you've been busy clearing out your yards to make room for all the new growth just waiting to explode over the next few weeks. The department of public works will help you clear the remaining leaves from your yard with a month-long pickup in April. The borough Web site says that the whole town, regardless of zones, can put leaves out from April 1-30. Leaves should be raked to the curb free of any branches, twigs, debris, stones etc. for pickup by the public works department.
  3. Down to business: Monday is a busy day at with lots of club meetings and activities. Here's the lineup today: Theatre Club 2:45-3:30, Chess Club Beg/Novice, YMCA Artsy Crazy gr.1&2, Art of Dance Prek-K.
  4. Pantry raid: Has your student been raiding your pantry for items to contribute to the school-wide food drive? All I know is that between the two students that live here in my house, I've kissed good-bye to a bunch of boxes of corn muffin mix and rice and a few bags that they've filled with cans. But I'm happy to donate to a good cause and never wanted to eat those black beans anyway.
  5. Warrior pride: Have you heard about the boys’ basketball team over at in Little Silver and their impressive winning streak? They wrapped up their second undefeated regular season on Saturday with a big win in the Run for the Roses Tournament Championship. Out cub reporter Emily Reardon captured the win, which .
