5 Things You Need to Know Today: Monday, April 2

What you need to know this first week of April in Oceanport and Little Silver.

Bad hair day: April starts a lot cooler than the fairly balmy March we just bid a fair adieu to. While the sun makes an appearance later this week, temperatures will only creep into the low 60s most days. Today we start to shake off the weekend's soggy weather with the sun coming out later this afternoon and the thermometer reaching about 57 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. I am issuing a bad hair alert with a ponytail advisory though for the potentially strong wind gusts predicted Monday.

Short work: It's a short work and school week this week with Friday a holiday for many schools and businesses. Both school districts and high schools get a jump start on their spring breaks with a day off for Good Friday and andborough offices will also be closed.

Going solar: will go before the borough's council on Monday at its workshop meeting to discuss plans for the district to take part in a solar program spearheaded by the Monmouth County Improvement Authority that includes a number of other local entities including the Borough of Eatontown, Middletown Township and the Manalapan, Middletown and Upper Freehold Township boards of education.

Leafy greens: If it's springtime in Oceanport it must mean that leaf pick up is once again in full swing through April 30. Leaves should be raked to the curb free of any branches, twigs, debris, stones, etc. for pickup by the Oceanport Public Works Department, regardless of what zone you live in.
