5 Things You Need to Know Today in Little Silver and Oceanport: May 18

Schedules for everything today from an author reading at Wolf Hill to Point Road's Field Day and when to expect the Bamboozle rush.

De nada: I know, intuitively, that I have absolutely nothing to do with this spate of gorgeous weather we are enjoying. And yet, I'd like to take some credit for it. For as much as I am aware that I had nothing to do with my son's impressive math SAT score or having a really tall daughter (as I am a short English major), perhaps sheer will power created those assets. And if that is the case, I definitely willed this weather after writing all last week about the rain. So, let me just say: You're welcome. Expect Friday and Saturday to mimic yesterday with gorgeous, sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70s. Rain clouds head in by late Sunday but I will try to focus on using my powers and wishing them away.

Author, author: On Friday, May 18, children's book illustrator and author Doreen Marts will be at the to share her experiences as an artist and to exhibit her artwork at the school. She will do three presentations for the entire school, have lunch with students and autograph books that the students have purchased.

9-9:45 Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten
10-10:45 Third and Fourth grade students
11-11:45 lunch with students in the Library
1-1:45 First and Second grade students.

End of year fun: Today is also Field Day. The school asks that you send your child to school with a FILLED water bottle with his or her last name and phone number on the bottom. The sunny forecast also calls for a good slathering of sunscreen before they leave home as well. The schedule is as follows:

9:00-10:00: Whole School Assembly

9:45-10:45: Pre-K AM Field Day

10:15-11:45: Session 1

Don't get Bamboozled: While early estimates put about 12,000 people using the parking lots along Oceanport Avenue as overflow for the Asbury Park music festival, we hear presale purchases for the shuttle to Bamboozle from Oceanport haven't been as high as expected. Expect the big rush between 2 p.m. when the buses start running and 5 p.m. when the concerts begin with lots of officers directing traffic and making sure things are running smoothly inside the lot as well.
