5 Things You Need to Know Today in Little Silver and Oceanport: April 27

Details on Saturday's sports parade and a handy coupon to clean your smelly dog.

Weather pattern: I thought we'd said, "good-bye" to things like boots and sweaters, but that's what I found myself pulling on to combat yesterday's cold, dreary weather. Friday's forecast is sunnier and warmer, for sure, but the possible 34 mph wind gust could just blow all the good-weather vibes away. Not to burst any bubbles, but Saturday doesn't look so great, either, with a 30-percent chance of rain after 2 p.m. Sunday should be cool and sunny, according to the National Weather Service, with temperatures around 58 degrees, and hopefully the start of a better weather pattern next week.

Hall of famers: Nine distinguished alumni will be inducted into Hall of Fame on Friday morning. The ceremony, which will feature introductions on the honorees by Creative Writing students, will be followed by a brunch prepared by RBR Culinary students. Among the honorees are Little Silver Councilman Dan O'Hern, RBR English teacher Andrew Forrest and Bob Sickles from Sickles Market (duh).

What's that smell?: I know how yucky your doggie can get after having to go in and out a million times on a rainy day. Here's my gift to you then: has a special promotion, good just Friday and Saturday. Spend $40 on grooming services and get a free gift in return. It'll compensate for the smell of wet dog that's settled inside your house. You can download the coupon attached to this article.

Special occasion: Got a special occasion to celebrate this weekend but haven't nailed down a place to go? Check out blogger Laura Madsen's review of Nicholas, just over the bridge in Red Bank.

Apple pie: Little Silver's annual Spring Sports Parade is slated for Saturday at 1 p.m. Kids will line up at the firehouse wearing their baseball, lacrosse or softball uniforms, and march on over to Boro Field for a good, old-fashioned ceremony followed by games and refreshments, sponsored by the borough's recreation department. The biggest problem of the day for some kids is whether to wear their baseball or lacrosse uniforms.
