5 Things You Need to Know Today in Little Silver and Oceanport: April 24

There are book fairs to attend, SAT classes to sign up for and a school principal just begging you to send your kid to school.

April showers: Things will warm up a little bit on Tuesday, but the National Weather Service predicts a 20 percent chance of showers after noon. You'll be able to crack the sunglasses back out of their case tomorrow when skies should turn sunnier with temperatures climb into the mid-60s.

Double dare: The "Buy One, Get One" Book Fair is in full swing this week. Tonight is Family Night from 6:30 to 8:30 at the school and we dare you to walk out of there without buying a bookmark or a poster.

The results are in: Report cards for Oceanport students in grades 3 to 8 are now available on the Parent Portal. To access the portal go to the district Web site and click the parent portal link located on the tabs across the top of the page just below the red lettered NJ ASK dates. Or you can just click here to arrive at the portal sign in page.

Don't ASK, don't tell: Principal Cory Radisch is asking, no, he's begging, parents not to take their 7th or 8th grade students out of school on Thursday to observe Take Your Child to Work Day. The day, April 26, happens to coincide with the last day of NJASK testing for those students and it is important for them to attend, he explains in a recent letter to parents. Radisch suggests parents pick a later date to take their child to work -- provided employers are amenable -- which will count as an excused absence from school.
