5 Things You Need to Know Today: Friday, March 2

A veritable potpourri of news and useful information for folks living in Little Silver and Oceanport.

1. Weather: Growing up in the 70s, most girls my age longed to be either Laura Ingalls, Marcia Brady or Little Orphan Annie (or rather, to star on Broadway in the lead role in Annie). As I was cursed with short hair and a mother who could not sew me a bonnet, I spent many hours locked in my room belting out "Tomorrow." So please, imagine a 10-year old girl crooning that song to you right now because we can, indeed, expect the sun to come back out tomorrow after the past few days doom and gloom. The weekend is looking soggy, according to the National Weather Service, so get out there and remember, you'll just need to stick out your chin, and grin, and say ... well, you know the rest.

2. The Work Around: If like me, you have run out of all sandwich making ingredients by Friday, we would like to remind you that there's always school lunches to fall back on (before you start filling a ziploc bag full of Apple Jacks). Here's what's on the menu today.

  • : Pasta with Meat Sauce, Garlic Bread, Green Beans, Fruit Snack

4. Winning Streak: For the third year in a row, Markham's boys basketball team is headed to the division championship game. After Wednesday's win against Tinton Falls, the Warriors take on Fair Haven in after school for bragging rights.
