Preview Your New Smile!

Dr. Meulener, DMD discusses the benefits of having an attractive smile and invites you to preview your new smile!

Imagine if your smile made you proud?
Imagine if your teeth were straight and white and healthy looking?

Imagine if you felt confident meeting new people – and comfortable no matter how many folks were in the room?

If you’re embarrassed by your teeth and ashamed of your smile it’s probably almost impossible to imagine feeling like that.

Instead, chances are you don’t smile much. And when you do, you probably try to hide your smile behind your hand. It’s only natural – but that doesn’t keep it from being a real problem.

Some of the people you meet probably just think you’re shy. Others, though, may feel like you’re cold, distant – even stuck-up. It’s not fair – but, sadly, it is the way people react.

What Everyone is Thinking
An independent study on behalf of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry confirms just how important a smile can be.

Conducted by a social psychologist, the study discovered that a whopping 99.7% of Americans believed an attractive smile was an important social asset.

So you’re right if you think folks are noticing your smile – and right to suspect that an unattractive smile can hold you back.

That’s particularly true where romance is concerned – with 96% of those surveyed saying an attractive smile makes people more appealing to members of the opposite sex.

A Roadblock to Success
No real surprise there. But what was surprising was that nearly three quarters of the people interviewed thought an unattractive smile could hurt a person’s chances for success. Not a cheerful thought – particularly in today’s economic climate.

To learn more, the researchers asked participants to look at a series of photos – some of folks with less than perfect smiles (although none with major problems like visibly rotting or missing teeth) and some of people who had undergone cosmetic dentistry. Then they were asked for their snap judgment about what the people might be like.

In every case, the people whose smiles had been improved by cosmetic dentistry were rated not only more attractive but more intelligent, more interesting, wealthier, kinder and more successful.

A Look at a Brighter Future
When you think about all the benefits of having a more attractive smile it’s easy to see why cosmetic dentistry has become so popular.

If you’re like many people, though, you may wonder if it’s right for you. Would the problems really disappear? Would the results look natural?

Those are smart and sensible questions. After all cosmetic dentistry is a true art and getting it right involves all sorts of esthetic decisions.
