Looking for a Job? Be Careful What You Post on Facebook

More than half of employers use social networks like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter to check out potential applicants.

These days it's not enough for many employers to review an applicants resume and references for a job – social media accounts are also part of the mix, according to a study done by UK business psychology firm OPP.

The data being released found 56 percent of employers said that they were likely to check out the social media presence of potential employees.

The firm suggests that job seekers check your Facebook privacy settings and present yourself on Linkedin as you would conduct yourself at a professional gathering or networking event.

On the other side of the spectrum, employers must be careful that they are not breaking the law by snooping around social media sites. It's important employers avoid racist, sexist or anti-religious biases that might surface, according to ZD Net.
