The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey Presents LOVE'S LABOUR'S LOST

THE SHAKESPEARE THEATRE OF NEW JERSEY’S  “NEXT STAGE ENSEMBLE”
SUMMER TOURING COMPANY BRINGS  LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST to the

Macculloch Hall Historical Museum Gardens

At 4pm on July 24th Macculloch Hall Historical Museum will present LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST performed by The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey’s Next Stage Ensemble summer touring program. Shakespeare’s delightful coming-of-age comedy is a witty and hilarious ode to youthful aspirations, infatuations and follies.  The young King of Navarre, along with three of his loyal friends, decide to dedicate themselves to the “noble pursuit of knowledge” for three full years, locking themselves away from all distractions…especially women.  Their ambitious “ivory tower” is soon shaken, with the arrival of the lovely Princess of France and her three gamesome ladies-in-waiting.  Filled with dazzling wordplay, strong comic characters and a few unexpected twists, LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST not only charms, but also touches the heartstrings of young and old alike.  Director Abigail Isaac (“As You Like It” tour, 2010) returns with an exciting new staging of this delicious Shakespeare confection.

About Macculloch Hall Historical Museum

House tours of the period rooms of the  museum will leave throughout the afternoon starting at 1pm, with the last tour leaving at 3pm. Tours will also visit a wonderful exhibit of American silver, the Coming of Age:  Early American Silversmiths; Masters, Apprentices, Trade Partners and Taste is in the upstairs gallery. The Shakespeare performance will take place at 4pm in the beautiful historic gardens which are resplendent with three acres of elegant plantings. Among the nearly sixty varieties of roses, many considered “heirloom” or pre-1920s, are two bushes that have defied identification and are named “Old Macculloch Hall Roses.” It is possible that these roses survived from the earliest period of the garden’s history.  Guests are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets. Regular admission applies - Adults $6; Seniors & Students $5; Members and children under 12 are free.  We are pleased to offer accessible restroom facilities during garden events this summer. If there is inclement weather the programs will be moved inside the Museum.

Macculloch Hall Historical Museum is a nonprofit educational affiliate of the W. Parsons Todd Foundation. About the Next Stage Ensemble

The Next Stage Ensemble, now in its 19th year, was created in 1992 as part of The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey's Summer Professional Training Program, to foster the work of early-career actors and directors. One of several exciting outreach programs offered by the Theatre, each summer the Next Stage Ensemble brings the thrill of live performance to audiences throughout New Jersey, while enabling young performers to gain valuable experience in classical theatre and ensemble work.

Much as an Elizabethan traveling company would have done, the troupe tours with only minimal sets and without lighting equipment. In traditional fashion, actors typically perform in multiple roles. The performers rely upon the text and their craft, rather than on elaborate sets, costumes and special effects, to create theatrical "magic."
