RBR Dance Majors Present A Holiday Dance Concert

The Red Bank Regional (RBR) Visual and Performing Arts
Academy presents A Holiday Dance Concert featuring 24 dance numbers. The 45 RBR dance majors will present two acts-- the first with traditional holiday numbers and a second eclectic act featuring jazz, ballet, modern, contemporary and lyrical dance as well as hip hop.  The performances take place on Thursday, December 15 and  Friday, December 16, at 7 pm at in Little Silver. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Tickets can be obtained at the door the day of the  performance or by calling 732-842-8000 ext. 364.

RBR’s dance performances are unique in that the majority of numbers are student choreographed. Two numbers for the holiday dance show were choreographed by returning guest artists Barbara Vari and Jessica Smith.

Senior Kendall Van Winkle of Little Silver chose to choreograph the song Syrup and Honey, sung by pop singer Duffy stating, “I loved its style as very classical and elegant.”

Junior Jessica Adderly of Union Beach chose a jazzy, jumpy number in choreographing Britney Spear’s version of “My Only Wish is You” for the Holiday Act.

Senior Dillon Jackson of Little Silver choreographed three numbers including the second act’s opening number XR2 by MIA featuring street jazz. Her other numbers varied from contemporary to rhythm and blues.

Senior Phoenicia Butler of Red Bank choreographed a Hip Hop remix to the famous Gene Kelly’s Singing in the Rain. In the holiday feature, she  horeographed a favorite Christina Aguilera song, Borne to You and the holiday finale with all 45 dancers moving on and off the stage in their various costumes to such favorites as When Christmas Comes to Town, Hot Chocolate (from the Polar Express movie) You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch, Marshmallow World and a Rockette show stopping number “I want to be a Rocket

Phoenicia plans to continue studying dance in college stating of her high school program, “It makes a difference to be able to dance everyday in school and to choreograph my own dances. I also learned all different styles and techniques from my teacher as well as the guest artists that are invited into the program each year.”
