Art Inspiration at Maple Cove

Plein Air painters took to the banks of the Navesink River Monday morning for landscape inspiration.

serves as one of the few remaining vestiges of public water access and natural shoreline remaining in Red Bank, a town where waterfront access is often restricted to a .

It's also got one heck of a view.

On Monday, a couple of plein air painters took the small path from the entrance of the tiny waterfront open space at the base of Maple Avenue to the shore for a view of the Navesink River.

With portable easels and trays of acrylic paint, Caroline Klein, of Somerset, and Kathleen Beausoleil, of Fair Haven, painted views of the shoreline, the river and the sailboats anchored in the middle. The women, members of the Plein Air Painters of the Jersey Coast, or PAPJC, regularly take trips to various points throughout the state to fulfill the group's mission of exploring the beauty of the outdoors.

The group will hold an art show and benefit on Aug. 18 at Monmouth Beach Bath and Tennis Club.

You just never know what's around the bend. Sometimes it's a swan. Sometimes it's a resident throwing a ball into the river for his dog. Sometimes it's a white Crane (bird) just sitting at the foot of the path at sunset. Sometimes a few little boys spalshing around in the water catching little fish or big boys taking out paddle boards or elaborate fishing kayaks. Always a wonderful experience. So check out the 3rd ANNUAL PADDLE THE NAVESINK DAY @ Maple Cove / Sept 8th / 10 - 4pm. Come and demo a kayak or paddleboard. Hands on crafts for kids along with the American Littoral Society that will take the kids saining in the river and explore their findings in a touch tank. RB Residents, come check us out! Maple Cove is indeed a jewel of the Navesink. I was pleasantly surprised to find this haven in Red Bank, where I could relax and enjoy the scenery. Seeing the artists got my creative juices flowing and I too decided to paint the beautiful scenery. Thanks to to the tireless residents who volunteer to keep this haven beautiful.
