Seven Bridges Road Scheduled to Reopen Monday

Seven Bridges Road is expected to reopen today after being closed for nearly nine months.

Little Silver Mayor Robert C. Neff, Jr. said county engineers have told the road will be reopened by the "end of business day" which should be about 4 or 5 p.m.

"We certainly hope so," Neff said. "The residents will be very happy about it. I'm very appreciative of the people who have had patience and have dealt with the detour."

Seven Bridges Road is a major county road that many Little Silver, Oceanport, and West Long Branch residents use to reach Rumson and Fair Haven.

Neff said the project has been delayed many times since it was originally approved about six years ago.

Hurricane Sandy further delayed the project, because it knocked power lines onto the road which had to be removed by Jersey Central Power and Light (JCP&L). Neff said it took JCP&L a few days before it could come out to the road to remove the lines and allow workers to start construction again.

Neff added that the project is more complicated than some people may think because of the fact that the concrete had to be poured in place and that the bridge is in a "small cramped space."

Neff said the county is also expected to pave the road in either June or July.

"They wanted to wait for schools to get out before they started," Neff said.

Neff said he has been told the project will take only four days; two days to mill the road and two days to pave it.
